The Best of State Awards were created as a program to recognize outstanding individuals, organizations, and businesses in Utah. Utah is a great place to live, and over the years we have been amazed by the successful and talented individuals, organizations and businesses we see here in this state. We would regularly discover businesses that we had never heard of, but that were doing world-class work for national and even international clientele. The more we discovered these fascinating stories, the more we wanted everyone else to know about them.
Generally, most trade or industry awards are so industry specific that they may mean little in the public domain. We wanted to reach out to the whole state with an all-encompassing and inclusive awards program that would provide a universal platform for recognition of people and organizations in nearly all fields. What’s more, we thought that bringing together the leaders in all these industries for a community event would be a great way to encourage in-state business relationships and opportunities.
It is our hope that by recognizing excellence in our community and sharing examples of success and triumph in so many worthy endeavors, that we will all be inspired to reach a little higher, to try a little harder, and to work a little longer for our dreams and goals.
What are the Criteria?
While there are other awards programs which honor financial success and recognize those who have increased revenues the most or the fastest, we desired to recognize the people, organizations and companies that improve the quality of life in Utah. We designed the Best of State awards judging criteria to consider some of the factors that don’t show up on the income statement.
Fifty percent of the points allotted by the judges are for overall achievement and excellence in performance, services or products, including financial performance where applicable. Another thirty percent is for innovation, creativity, and differentiation, and the remaining twenty percent is for contributions toward making Utah a better place to live. In every category, there are numerous ways to show that a nominee measured up to the Best of State motto, “Excelling and Surpassing All Else.”
